Postdoc in Joint Optimization of Heat and Power Systems

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as postdoc in Joint Optimization of Heat and Power Systems is open for appointment from April 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 18 months, with a possibility of extension.  The Department of Electronic Systems is one of the largest departments at Aalborg University with a total of more than 250 employees. The department is internationally recognized in particular for its contributions within Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The research and teaching of the Department of Electronic Systems focus on electronic engineering and the activity areas are organized in the sections: Antennas, Propagation and Millimetre-wave Systems section (APMS), Automation Control section (Control), Connectivity section (CNT), Signal and Information Processing section (SIP), Wireless Communication Networks section (WCN) and Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI). <p>The department focuses on maintaining a close interplay with the university’s surroundings - locally, nationally and internationally – as well as producing unique basic research and educating talented and creative engineers. The department collaborates with leading ICT researchers all over the world.

Job description

We seek to appoint a PostDoc to take part in research and knowledge exchange in the project “Local Heating Concepts for Power Balancing”. The research project aims to optimize the synergies between the power system and district heating systems in urban areas. The power system will benefit from improved balancing flexibility targeted towards improved integration of renewables and improved security of supply, whereas the district heating system will benefit from increasing green energy supply and from decreased investment needs.

The project involves partners from the private Energy sector in Denmark as well as Aalborg and Aarhus universities.

The PostDoc’s role involves:

• Research into control and optimization of portfolios of diverse power and heat producers/consumers
• Dissemination to project partners and the scientific community
• Leverage of knowledge and experience to strengthen our relationship with our partners in the project

It is presupposed that applicants for the position as PostDoc have research qualifications from a successful PhD study in systems and control or a similar field of research. The applicants must document a record of scientific production at an international level within systems and control.

Qualification requirements: 
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
