Associate Professor in Milimetre-Wave electronics

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Associate Professor in Millimetre-Wave electronics is open for appointment from May 15, 2018 or soon hereafter. The position is available for 4 years.

Job description

The position is with the Antenna, Propagation and Millimetre-Wave System (APMS) research group, which covers a broad range of topics including antennas, propagation, and transceiver solutions for emerging radio communication systems and applications. The focus of the research group is in all aspects largely upon small terminal devices. Specific research areas include (but is not limited to) Radio Propagation, Electromagnetics, Bioelectromagnetics, Antennas, transceiver systems, millimetre-wave systems and circuits, and MIMO Communications.

Research areas for the position will cover topics in the field of millimetre-wave transceiver design, with specific focus on antennas and antenna-systems for 5G and satellite applications, as well as low-power and compact/integrated transceiver solutions for applications predominantly in the 1 – 60 GHz range. The applicant is further expected to work with application of wireless communication in harsh environments, including RFID and UWB technologies.

The successful applicant should have extensive and documented expertise, of highest international level, in most of the areas below:

Radio system design for mobile and satellite applications up to 60 GHz

  • Small antennas and compact antenna systems
  • Millimetre-wave transceiver blocks
  • Numerical simulations, implementation and measurements
  • Power efficient transceiver implementations
  • Integrated circuit design
  • Applications of radio propagation for non-communication systems
  • Experience with teaching and supervision

The successful candidate should have excellent academic merits and a proven publication track record, preferably including high-ranking journal publications. Further, practical experience with application of RFID and UWB systems, possibly in harsh environments, is desirable.

Teaching obligations will primarily be carried out within study programs related to Electronics and IT, including areas of wireless communication related masters programs. The position also includes a high level of collaboration with external partners from both industry and academia, research work related to external projects as well as supervision of Ph.D. students

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
