Post doc with a focus on migration into Northern Europe

At The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Culture and Global Studies, a position as Postdoc (fixed-term max. 2 years) is open for appointment from 1 October 2018 or soon thereafter. The position is for 2 years.

Job description

A two-year Postdoc position is available at the Centre for the study on Migration and Diversity (CoMID) at Aalborg University in Denmark. The position is linked to the cross-disciplinary research project “Global flows of migrants and their impact on North European Welfare States” (FLOW) www.strategi.aau.dk/FLOW). The FLOW-project-group is based both at the campus in Aalborg and in Copenhagen.

The senior staff members within the FLOW-project have a mixed background in political science, sociology and geography. We seek to establish a cross-disciplinary vibrant and excellent research team dealing with one of the most salient and contested issues in Western Europe. The Postdoc will take part in working on package 2 (project 2.3), with focus on the discursive construction of the effect of immigration on the welfare states in Denmark and Sweden. The project will be based on policy narrative analysis. The Postdoc is expected to participate in the data collection and the analysis of this as well as the publication of the findings. 

In order to qualify for the position, the applicant must have a relevant educational background within sociology, political science or a discipline where the applicant has acquired skills for document analysis. The applicant must be highly proficient in Danish and Swedish. Furthermore, the applicant will be expected to contribute to the development of a methodological tool-box.

In terms of personal qualities, the applicant is expected to have strong interpersonal skills, and to be able to establish and maintain good relations with researchers and students in an environment characterised by cultural diversity.

Daily attendance at the Department is required. In addition, the new employee must be prepared to participate actively in all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the Department and Centre. Qualification requirements

Candidates must have scientific qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures. To a limited extent other tasks may occur in the position.

Assessment

An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
