Assistant Professor in Mathematics and Computer Programming

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, Aalborg University Copenhagen a position as Assistant Professor in Mathematics and Computer Programming is available for appointment from November 1 2018 or soon thereafter. The Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description

Research areas will be within the field of Technology Enhanced-Learning (TEL). Of high importance is a solid expertise in theoretical and practical pedagogical methodology, including the flipped classroom, problem-based learning approaches and TEL for mathematics education. Background knowledge in programming and learning analytics is an asset.

Further assets are international academic activity and experience in research collaborations. It is expected that the applicant can document the ability to participate and administrate research projects (national and EU), as well as attract and manage such projects. The applicant is also expected to demonstrate a significant publication record in the last 5 years.

Teaching will primarily be in the following two educations: a) “Medialogy” (Bachelor) and b) “Service Systems Design” (M.Sc.). The teaching areas include programming for interaction and for services, advanced programming, and mathematics for multimedia applications. The applicant should document a solid teaching experience of over 10 years, as well as a proved experience in teaching and student project supervision using problem-based learning.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
