Postdoc in Control and Optimization of Microgrids and Smart Energy Buildings

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, Esbjerg Energy Section a position as postdoc in Control and Optimization of Microgrids and Smart Energy Buildings is open for appointment from 1st. January 2019 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 19 months. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 280 employees – out of them are more than 110 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class, and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program "Photovoltaic Systems" and the postdoc will be positioned to the section in Esbjerg.

Job description

Research areas will be within cover topics in the field of Control and Optimization of Smart Energy Systems, with specific focus on Implementation Model Predictive Control on DC Microgrid. This project will develop a platform for the energy management system for smart energy buildings with own renewable energy-based production and energy storage devices. The project aims at developing methods for improving the efficiency of energy uses in buildings, reducing total energy demands in buildings without compromising the level of comforts of customers.

A successful application prerequisite that the applicant demonstrates a documented expertise in most of the areas below:
•    Model Predictive Control of Smart Energy Systems
•    Implementation of Control Systems on Power Electronic Converters
•    Development of optimization algorithm for Energy Management Systems.

The position also includes collaboration with external partners from industry and academia, research work related to external projects as well as supervision of Ph.D. students.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
