At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Danish Building Research Institute (Statens Byggeforskningsinstitut) at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a Professorship in Health in Buildings is open for appointment from March 1st, 2019 or soon hereafter

Job description

The professorship has a special focus on how to improve the health conditions for the building users in relation to impacts in the indoor environment from air quality, mould growth, particulate air pollutants, and chemical substances. The professor is expected to contribute to the further consolidation of the institute's efforts within the research field of healthy indoor environments.

The professorship is a full-time position situated within the Research Group on Indoor Health Impacts. The group focuses on indoor climate and its impact on the health of the building users. The research in the group embraces experiments in field and laboratories, intervention experiments, demonstration projects, collection of data and experiences together with verification and development of theories and mathematical relations. The group has expertise in air quality, mould growth, particulate air pollutants, chemical substances, thermal comfort and user behaviour. The research is interdisciplinary with the overall purpose of indoor climate being as supportive to health and well-being as possible. The focus is to create knowledge that aims to prevent and remedy mould growth and other moisture-related problems in buildings, exposure to chemical substances such as Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) and other volatile and semi-volatile substances and support user behaviour that promotes a healthy indoor climate.

The successful applicant should be able to contribute with theory and practical methods to improve and ensure a healthy indoor environment. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be able to document excellence at an international level within this field and be able to initiate and lead research projects, as well as raising funding for these projects.

Research at the Danish Building Research Institute is conducted in close collaboration with various parties, including Danish governmental bodies at all levels, organizations, funds, business partners and other research teams. Experience with transdisciplinary collaborations as well as with the sector outside of academia is anticipated. The position furthermore includes some teaching and supervision at master and PhD level.

Qualification requirements
The successful applicant must demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions and abilities in respect to attracting research funding will also be taken into account. In addition, the applicant is expected to have the qualifications for undertaking teaching responsibilities and to have experience with PhD supervision.

Agreement

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
