Professorship in Ventilation Systems for Buildings (2018-224-01983)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Danish Building Research Institute (Statens Byggeforskningsinstitut) at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a Professorship in Ventilation Systems for Buildings is open for appointment from March 1st, 2019 or soon hereafter.

Job description

The professorship has a special focus on how to improve the energy efficiency and the indoor climate in relation to the development of new solutions for ventilation and air handling systems for buildings. The professor is expected to contribute to the further consolidation of the institute's effort within the research field of ventilation systems for buildings.

The professorship is a full-time position situated within the Research Group for Ventilation Systems for Buildings. The research in the group includes providing energy efficient solutions for improving atmospheric climate and thermal conditions for buildings. The solutions comprise new technologies and controls for ventilation, heating, cooling and air cleaning. Buildings in focus are existing and new office buildings, institutions and schools as well as residential buildings. Energy efficiency is not only in terms of reduced energy use, but also in terms of management and optimization of energy use in time, e.g. through the use of Smart Grids. On buildings level energy efficient solutions includes advanced room control, demand controlled systems combining ventilation and heating together, phase change materials and renewable energy sources. The air cleaning solutions includes technologies for removal of both particles and gases considering indoor air quality.

The successful applicant should be able to contribute with theory and practical methods to improve air handling in buildings. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be able to document excellence at an international level within this field and be able to initiate and lead research projects, as well as raising funding for these projects.

Research at the Danish Building Research Institute is conducted in close collaboration with various parties, including Danish governmental bodies at all levels, organizations, funds, business partners and other research teams. Experience with transdisciplinary collaborations as well as with the sector outside of academia is anticipated. The position furthermore includes some teaching and supervision at master and PhD level.

Qualification requirements
The successful applicant must demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions and abilities in respect to attracting research funding will also be taken into account. In addition, the applicant is expected to have the qualifications for undertaking teaching responsibilities and to have experience with PhD supervision.

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
