One or more PhD Stipends in Computer Science; Data Analytics and Machine Learning (16-19011)

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, one ore more PhD stipends in Data Analytics and Machine Learning are available within the general study programme Computer Science. The stipends are open for appointment from 1 May 2018 or soon thereafter.

Job description

Many real world problems can be modeled as graph problems. For example, in transportation, vehicle routing can be modeled as a shortest path finding problem on road network graphs. To solve such graph problems, a fundamental issue is to identify effective graph representations. The objective of the PhD positions is to carry out research on learning distinctive graph representations to solve different graph problems.

Requirements:
- Master in computer science or a closely related field.
- Experience with deep learning and graph embedding.
- Excellent scientific background and publication record.

A project description of max 2 pages excl. references must be attached to the application. The description should outline a relevant research project.

For further information about scientific aspects of the stipends, please contact Professor Bin Yang, byang@cs.aau.dk.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Technical Faculty of IT and Design will make a decision for allocating the stipends.
