At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology,  one or more positions as Postdoc in respiratory and critical care technology are open for appointment from May 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 1,5 year (with potential for extension).

Job description


The Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research and teaching in the area of health science and technology. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. More than 100 PhD¬students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department. The department has laboratory facilities for Multichannel EEG and EMG analysis, NMR- and electrical stimulations, ECG-analysis, ultrasound, 3-d movement analysis, respiratory and circulatory examinations, sensory and motor functions analysis, clean room facilities, cell growth, molecular biology etc. for more see: www.hst.aau.dk

In 2000 AAU established a new five year master program within biomedical engineering, in 2006 within medicine with industrial specialization, in 2007 within Sports Science and latest in 2010 within medicineand latest in 2019 within Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. All educations at AAU are based on problem based teaching.


This is a 1.5 year position (with potential for extension) as a post-doc research fellow in the Respiratory and Critical Care group (rcare), of the Department of Health Science and Technology.
The position is funded by an EU H2020 project investigating the use of a clinical decision support system (the Beacon Caresystem www.beaconcaresystem.com) to monitor and advise on mechanical ventilation in intensive care patients.
In particular, this project focusses on the most severely ill sub-group of these patients who may require treatment with extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). As a post-doctoral biomedical engineer working on this project you will be involved in system set-up, study design and analysis of results. Analysis of results will involve interpretation of data in terms of mathematical physiological models of the critically ill patient. The position will also involve travel to clinical collaborative sites across Europe.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
