Associate Professor in Reliability and Risk Analysis

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Civil Engineering, a position as Associate Professor in Reliability and Risk Analysis is open for appointment from July 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Civil Engineering focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within civil engineering. Research areas span from indoor environment, wind turbines, structural design, structural materials, geotechnical engineering and wave energy to food and design along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. Job description

The position is within the Reliability and Risk Analysis Research Group. The research in the research group is concentrated on reliability and risk-based analysis and design of structural systems including buildings, bridges, offshore structures and renewable energy structures, with specific focus on wind energy structures. 

The objective of the position is to strengthen the department’s activities in the broad range from theory to applications in the area of reliability-based and risk-informed methods within civil and structural engineering. Therefore, we are seeking an ambitious and talented candidate who is able to form and manage the research group successfully towards the defined objectives. The right candidate possess the required leadership skills, focusing on both people and professional management of the research group.  

For the vacant position, the research areas include probabilistic design methods, probabilistic modelling, and reliability and risk-based methods for design and operation & maintenance planning for renewable structures, especially wind turbines.

The position includes teaching at the Bachelor's and Master's program in Civil Engineering. A major part of the teaching and supervision is expected to be on the Bachelor's program. The position includes teaching within the areas of structural analysis and design, wind turbines, load assessment, probability theory and statistics and reliability of structures.

The candidate must have a good research and academic teaching record within the area of the position, and with documented research experience within reliability and risk-based methods for wind turbines. Furthermore, an international profile will be an advantage as regards to the international scope of the position.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
