Research Assistant in Cyber Security

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Research Assistant in Cyber Security is open for appointment from December 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 12 months.

Job description

The Department of Electronic Systems is expanding its activities on cyber security, and as part of this expansion the research group in cyber security is building a unique virtual platform for cyber security training, funded by Industriens Fond. The platform has already gained wide recognition in Denmark, where it is developed in close collaboration with companies and other educational institutions, but also internationally: It was recently accepted for demonstration at Blackhat Europe in December 2019. It provides the participants easy access to a secure and contained environment for solving challenges related to cyber security, and a place to try out the methods and techniques they learned.

The position offered is related to creation of interactive digital training material which complements the training platform. The ideal candidate has a good technical foundation and interest in cyber security, along with interest and skills in dissemination and communication.

Research areas will be in the field of cyber security training, with a particular focus on developing digital training materials. The main tasks of the position consist of:

  • Creation of training materials in technical topics related to cyber security, including topics related to penetration testing and network security. The materials include written materials, graphics, interactive content, and technical challenges in the training platform.
  • Creation of training materials in cyber security, which supports digitization and take-up of new technologies in small and medium sized enterprises.
  • A limited amount of teaching, mainly related to the usage of the training materials.

The candidate will work closely together with other researchers in the group, as well as with a team of student helpers.

The candidate is expected to have experience with Kali Linux, and some knowledge within topics such as network scanning, network monitoring and use of the Metasploit framework is desired. The candidate must be able to master a correct and accurate written English. A relevant educational background at M.Sc. level is required, preferably within IT.

The required level of qualifications is at master level.

Appointment to Research Assistant may be for a period of up to three years. Reappointment may be made, but a Research Assistant can only be appointed to Research Assistant for a period of maximum three years. Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
