Assistant Professor within Health Economics and Economic Evaluation

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine a position as Assistant Professor is open for appointment from September, 1 2020 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of three years.

Job description

The Department of Clinical Medicine at Aalborg University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor with qualifications within health economics and economic evaluation, and especially competences within economic evaluation of complex interventions. Applicants for the position must hold a relevant PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level. The successful candidate is to begin on September 1, 2020.

The vacant position is with the research group Danish Center for Healthcare Improvements (DCHI), which is an application-oriented, interdisciplinary research group. The overall aim of DCHI is to improve patient safety and cost-effectiveness of initiatives within the healthcare sector by providing decision makers with qualified and research-based input for decision-making. In the coming years, the Department and DCHI strives to strengthen the research field within economic evaluation of complex interventions, and the position will primarily be centered on research and teaching within this area. As such, the applicant should have strong qualifications within health economic evaluation, and likewise have past research experience with advanced methods within health economic evaluation of complex interventions.

The successful candidate must actively contribute to strengthen both the Department as well as DCHI’s profile within health economics and evaluation of complex interventions within the Danish healthcare sector. The candidate is committed to contribute to the research activities of DCHI such as formulate, develop, implement and manage research projects and contribute to attract external funding etc. A documented ability to attract external funding from national and/or international funding agencies is advantageous.

The appointment includes an obligation to participate in planning and teaching of relevant courses within health economics on both a basic and an advanced level. The courses will primarily be held at the Master programme of Public Health and the Master programme of Medicine with Industrial Specialization, Medical Market Access, at Aalborg University. Additionally, the successful candidate must also contribute to project supervision and examination of students within the field of health economics. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for Assistant Professors organised by the University.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • A statement outlining your reasons for applying, and intentions and visions with, the position.
  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
