Associate professor in Public Administration and Organization Studies

At the Department of Politics and Society at the Faculty of Social Sciences, a permanent position as associate professor in Public Administration and Organization Studies is open for appointment from 1. January 2021 or soon thereafter.

Job description

The applicant should document research within one or more of the following thematic fields in public administration and/or organization studies:

  • The institutional and political dynamics within and around public organizations
  • Leadership and management
  • Innovation and organizational change processes
  • E-government and digital era governance
  • The organization and structure of the Danish public sector
  • Democratic governance and civil service systems
  • Public management reforms
  • Comparative public administration

The associate professor will be affiliated the Center for Organization, Management and Administration (COMA), a cross-institutional research group with participants from the Department of Politics and Society and the Department of Sociology and Social Work (http://www.coma.aau.dk).

The associate professor is expected to contribute actively to professional and social activities at the center to enhance a supportive work environment dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. This includes engagement in development of teaching responsibilities and portfolios, searches for funding and initiation of new research projects in collaboration with colleagues, active contribution to a supportive research and teaching culture, and participation in the social activities at COMA and the Department of Politics and Society.

Applicants for the position must document that they have teaching and research experience in the fields of public administration and/or organization studies. The field of research lies in the interface between general organizational theory and public administration and documented experience with research and teaching related to both traditions will be an advantage though not a prerequisite.

Furthermore, applicants are expected to have experience with participation in Danish and/or international research projects, to have published in international journals and to be active at international conferences and research networks. Also, applicants are expected to bring a clear vision for their research and contribution to research and teaching at COMA and Department of Politics and Society.

Most of the teaching related to the position will be at the bachelor's and master's programs in Politics and Administration (PAS), the bachelor's and master's programs in IT management (BID / Cand.it) and the master's program in Public Governance (MPG).

Qualification requirements
It is presupposed that applicants for the position as associate professor have research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as an assistant professor/researcher, or achieved otherwise. The applicants must document scientific production at an international level. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have received supervision and pedagogical upgrading and a positive written evaluation of their teaching qualifications. Moreover it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

• List of publications that the applicant wishes to be considered. A maximum of 10 publications may be submitted.
• Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. The declaration must be signed by the co-authors. Template co-author declaration.
• Education (copies of documentation for degrees obtained).
• Documentation for teaching qualifications. Guidance Teaching portfolio.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
