Job description

At the Department of Communication and Psychology, Aalborg University, a position Professor Mso in games, learning and didactics is open for appointment 1th of February 2019 or soon thereafter. The appointment will be a full-time position which will include both research and teaching activities.

The primary tasks associated with the position are research and teaching in the field of games, learning, and didactics in technology-related school contexts

In terms of teaching, the position is primarily affiliated with the bachelor and master programs in Communication and Digital Media and the Master of ICT and Learning (MIL). Aalborg University employs a problem-based learning (PBL) approach, and previous experience of PBL will be considered an advantage.

In terms of research, the position is aimed at candidates who, through research at an international level, have conducted empirical studies of:

  • IT, games, curricula and learning
  • Teacher and student roles
  • Competence development

The successful candidate will primarily be affiliated with the knowledge resource group VILD (Visual studies and learning design) which conducts research within the following main areas:

  • Games and innovative learning processes
  • Creativity, visualizations and aesthetics
  • Design processes and didactics

In terms of personal qualities, the successful candidate is expected to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain good rapport with researchers of various cultural and political backgrounds.

Regular attendance at the Department is required. In addition, applicants must be prepared to participate actively in all aspects of the day-to-day activities at the Department and in the study programmes. Professor with specific responsibilities
Appointment to Professor with specific responsibilities is a temporary position with focus on specific projects as well as ordinary professorship duties. The specific projects may take from three to 8 years. The position will normally be established for the purpose of appointing particularly talented researchers with the ability to develop a promising academic field at an international level.

After expiry of the period the employee exceeds to a position as Assosiate Professor.

Applicants to the professorship are required to provide documentation of a substantial amount of original scientific production at international level, and documentation of significant contribution to the development of the research area in question. It is equally important that applicants are able to undertake research management or other kinds of management, pedagogical counselling and supervision as well as academic assessment tasks.

  • Complete publication list, marking the attached publications, to be taken into consideration in connection with the assessment. A maximum of ten publications may be attached.
  • In case the applicant attaches publications elaborated ind collaboration with co-authors, a co-author statement must be enclosed, specifying the applicant's contribution to the joint work. The co-author statement must be signed by at least one of the co-authors Template

An assessment committee will assess all candidates. Applicants may subsequently be summoned to an interview and/or trial lecture.
