Assistant Professor in Thermal Energy Systems (201704)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology a position as Assistant Professor in Thermal Energy Systems is open for appointment in the period 01.08.2017 - 31.07.2020 or soon thereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines to Thermal Energy, including Fluid Mechanics and Combustion, as well as Mechatronic systems. The department has about 250 employees – out of them, more than 100 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are state-of-the-art and the research is most often carried out in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program " Thermal energy systems" and will be placed at our department in Esbjerg.

Job description

The assistant professor position will be part of a strong and dedicated team. The ideal candidate is expected to have competences within the field of Thermal Sciences with research interest preferable within thermal energy systems. This could be combustion or gasification of solid biomass, heating and refrigeration technology, optimization and integration of thermal energy systems, or similar with documented experience. The candidate should also expect to be involved in the development of complimentary research programs in other areas associated with the Department of Energy Technology. The assistant professor will cooperate with research groups at both Esbjerg and Aalborg Campus within the department and possible with different departments at AAU and other research groups. 
     
The candidate should have a strong desire for teaching and supervision of students at the energy engineering educations. In addition to research, teaching within thermal sciences such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and chemical processes should be expected. Teaching will mostly fall within the Energy Engineering Program, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and will consist of classroom teaching as well as supervision within the Problem-Based-Learning (PBL) approach. Often there is a synergy between the candidate’s research interests and the student projects on the higher semesters.    
Appointment as Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD-level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. A part of this assessment will address the ability of the candidate to communicate scientific results. The candidate is thus expected to exhibit a previous record in effectively communicating research in peer reviewed publications.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
