At Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning, Copenhagen a position as Assistant Professor in Theories of Social Practice and Sustainability is open for appointment from 01.07. 2017 or soon hereafter. The position is available for 3 years. The Department of Development and Planning conducts research and teaching on development and planning in a broad sense, including social science aspects as well as more technical aspects of development, and with a focus on environmental, international as well as administrative dimensions.

Job description

The assistant professorship in Social Practices and Sustainability is associated with a broader research area on socio-technical transitions and dynamics of social practices related to (un)sustainable production and consumption. We are looking for a candidate with a strong interdisciplinary background, preferably with an educational background within social- and technical sciences, focused around environmental/sustainability consequences of social practices, everyday life and society. The applicant should be able to skillfully undertake analyses of social practice dynamics of production and consumption; therefore the applicant need to have a thorough scientific understanding of, and experience with, conducting analyses of social practice. The applicant is equally expected to have deep knowledge of, and experience with, the wide range of theories of social practices related to research areas of culture, consumption, technology, everyday life and intervention.

 

A candidate who has demonstrated ability to produce research proposals and obtain external funding is preferred. The position includes teaching obligations, primarily connected to the B.sc and M.sc in Sustainable Design, but teaching engagement in other study programs within Department of Development and Planning should be expected.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark). Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
