Assistant Professor in Industrial Design

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology a position as Assistant Professor in Industrial Design is open for appointment from November, 1st 2017 or soon hereafter and for a period of three years. The Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description

The position is with the Industrial Design Section at Aalborg University, and within a research field related to ‘Design Driven Innovation’ Research Group.

The key research themes addressed by this group are Front-end Innovation, Meaning Making and Design Frames in interdisciplinary teams. The overall purpose is to understand how design and design thinking drives innovation, and to understand the strengths, weaknesses and challenges of this approach for various organizations and companies. The academic fields include: Design research, Design- and Innovation Management.

Applicant profile

The applicant should be willing to join a collaborative research and teaching environment and has previous research experience with design theories, processes and methods. The candidate is a design researcher with a relevant background in Industrial Design, Product Design, Design Engineering or similar.

The successful applicant will be part of an ambitious research and teaching environment. The position includes teaching obligations in the study programs to which the Industrial Design Section is related. The candidate is expected to actively and in a collaborative manner participate in the further development of the research field of Design Driven Innovation.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
