Job description

The position
In the healthcare sector, many patients are required to perform repetitive exercise routines, which can be both painful and tedious. This PhD position will investigate how virtual reality (VR) technologies, interaction design in VR and VR content directions can be beneficial for motivation of repetitive physical rehabilitation exercise, using manuped (or similar chair-based biking device) for patients.

The candidate will work in close collaboration with physical therapists at Sundhedscentret and Døgnrehabiliteringen at Frederiksberg Municipality. A substantial part of the position time will be spent on location, and will include a lot of patient interaction. At Aalborg University Copenhagen, the candidate will be affiliated with researchers from the Multisensory Experience Lab (ME-Lab). Development will predominantly be performed at AAU and ME-Lab.

The ideal candidate has a combination of technical media technological- and physical therapeutic competences. More specifically, the candidate is technically skilled in virtual reality development (Unity or UE4), experienced in design and optimization of large, immersive virtual environments, and proficient with interaction- and user experience design. The ideal candidate also has an educational background and professional experience within physical therapy and rehabilitation, and thereby an understanding of the sensitivity of patient-therapist relations and circumstances. Previous research experience and research publications will be considered an advantage.

The candidate needs to be highly proficient with spoken Danish.
