The new professor must be able to develop their own research and support the research of other academic staff and must be highly experienced in research management.

Job description

We are seeking a professor who will contribute to developing new perspectives on mobility, urban studies and violence, based on their previous and planned research.  The professor’s empirical field may include Africa and/or Asia.

The applicant’s ability to conduct ground-breaking and original research, documented by previous research and planned future research, will be weighted in the assessment. Such ground-breaking and original research may include the development of theories, methods and/or new approaches to issues within mobility, urban studies and violence.

The future professor is expected to be experienced in publishing internationally and in acquiring external funding.  Experience in research management will also be weighted, including international research collaboration, as well as the demonstration of the ability to bring together researchers in a research group through collective visions, with a view to realising shared synergies and priorities. At the same time, in their capacity of research leader, the future professor is expected to supervise young researchers and to support individual talent development.

Finally, in their capacity of research leader, the future professor is expected to take the role in the Department as the academic leader in their field; this implies contributing to developing the degree programme and teaching activities in Global Refugee Studies, and collaborating with the management of the Department on developing the overall academic profile of the Department.

The position will be affiliated with the research group GRS (Global Refugee Studies), in which the professor will contribute to securing continued innovation and further development of the research environment.

The position as professor includes teaching activities in the Master’s Programme in Global Refugee Studies. The candidate must possess extensive teaching experience at university level, and must ideally provide new ideas for the development of teaching activities in terms of both academic content and pedagogy.

In terms of personal qualities, the successful candidate is expected to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain good rapport with researchers and students.

Daily presence at the Department is a precondition, but working from home is also possible to the extent that this does not prevent continuous active involvement in activities at the Department.  Moreover, applicants must be prepared to participate actively in all aspects of the day-to-day activities at the Department and in the degree programmes.
