At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Civil Engineering a position as Assistant Professor in Structural Mechanics and Dynamics is open for appointment from July 1, 2018 or soon hereafter. The position is available for 3 years. The position is at the department’s division for Structural and Offshore Engineering, which is located in Esbjerg. The Department of Civil Engineering focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within civil engineering. Research areas include structural analysis and design, material modeling, geotechnics, and wave energy. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment, and the department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in-situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. Job description

The research within this division particularly concerns structural integrity monitoring and analysis of the condition and spreading of cracks in offshore structures. Furthermore, the division conducts research that addresses fluid-structure interaction, where focus is on simulation of interaction between waves, wind, and offshore structures.

The position concerns research within structural mechanics and dynamics; with special emphasis on vibration analysis and its use in structural integrity monitoring. The candidate must have a strong interest in vibration analysis, mathematical modeling, and signal processing. Furthermore, the candidate must have conducted research within the field in question.

The teaching activities will primarily be related to structural mechanics and dynamics and will include both lecturing and supervision of student projects on bachelor and master level.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. 

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
