Job description

The Department of Planning is currently strengthening teaching and research in engineering design, prototyping and manufacturing technology. The applicant will become part of a research group that complements engineering design and conceptualisation in product design with socio-material and sustainability approaches. Our research strategy is to explore how design approaches and methods can contribute to sustainable change.

The position is related to teaching design relevant courses of mechanical engineering such as basic fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and mechanics to design engineering students in our B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Sustainable Design (taught in respectively Danish and English).


Applicants to the position should in their research profile show knowledge of and experiences that include:

- A strong research and publication record on engineering design, such as prototyping and mechanical elements of product design.

- International academic network activities in the area of product design methodologies including elements such as mechanical design, prototyping, product platforms and architectures, preferably in relation to eco-design approaches 

The position asks for applicants that have skills on or experience with:

- Engineering design and methods applied to design activities.

- Current developments ind sustainable design engineering.

- Work in interdisciplinary teams including socio-material approaches to design and sustainability.

Applicants should preferably have experience in writing research applications and proven ability to attract external funding is desirable.

Qualification requirements as Associate Professor: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

Qualification requirements as Assistant Professor:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
