The Department of Planning includes development and planning in a broad sense, and thereby it reaches from the social science aspects of development (technological, environmental, international and administrative aspects) to physical planning, sector planning, land management, and to technical subjects such as environmental management, energy planning, surveying and geoinformatics. Job description

Aalborg University is currently seeking to expand its research team and teaching capabilities with a Professor in the field of land surveying and positioning.

A successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to teach and conduct research in the broad area of surveying and positioning, and should have research experience aligned to at least the first two of the following topics:

  • Geodetic positioning and GNSS
  • Land surveying and boundary law
  • Photogrammetry, lidar and remote sensing
  • Navigation and location-based services
  • Data quality assessments

The position is closely related to the chartered surveyor education programme, which is running in a dual campus environment, with parallel educations in Aalborg and Copenhagen. As Professor with special responsibilities, you will be expected to play a leading role in strengthening the Land Surveying and Management education at the Copenhagen campus in close cooperation with the research group in Aalborg campus. It is expected that you take an active role in teaching and development of curriculums for the M.Sc. programme in Land Surveying and Management. However, you may also be involved in teaching other study programmes at the University.

The position will be placed in Copenhagen alongside a strong geoinformatics research group and a smaller land management group.  

As Professor with special responsibilities, you will be expected to develop a strong research profile within the field of land surveying and positioning, including supporting young academics (PhD, post.doc. etc.) in their career development. Experience with supervision of PhD students is advantageous. With the responsibility to initiate, attract and lead externally funded research and innovation projects, you are required to be experienced in project development and project management. 

In summary, the main responsibility as Professor will be to build up a research agenda within the fields of surveying and positioning in an interdisciplinary department. You will have responsibility to:

  • Strengthen the existing research environment in land surveying at the Department of Planning
  • Attract external funding to establish a research agenda with international impact and visibility
  • Supervise PhD students
  • Provide leadership for the master’s programme in Land surveying and Management
  • Actively engage with internal and external research environments and beyond in order to strengthen Aalborg University’s position within the field.

We offer an innovative research environment within the field of geoinformatics and land management but seeks to strengthening the research within land surveying and positioning.

All teaching programmes at Aalborg University utilise a problem-based learning philosophy, which, among other things, requires that at least half of the ECTS per semester are derived from group-based student projects. This model offers ample opportunities for developing strong ties between teaching, research, and practice.

Qualification requirements:
The level of qualifications shall correspond to the ordinary positions at the level of Professor however, also the potential of the candidate to further develop the academic fields in question as well as a documented original scientific production shall be taken into consideration. An assessment of the ability of the candidate to undertake the specific projects related to the appointment in question will be particularly emphasised. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities.
