One or more PhD Stipends in Filtration of supply air in multistory residential buildings for improving indoor climate (SBI-18044)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Danish Building Research Institute (Department of Energy Performance, Indoor Environment and Sustainability of Buildings), one or more PhD stipends in energy efficient ventilation systems with specific focus on filtration of supply air in multistory residential buildings are open for appointment from 1 July, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 3 years.

Job description

Filtration of supply air in multistory residential buildings for improving indoor climate

A number of air pollutants have been recognized to exist indoors, including particles and gaseous. Some of these pollutants are common to both indoor and outdoor environments, and some of them may be originated from outdoors. Several studies indicate that indoor air quality is affected by outdoor air. Air filtration is used to reduce particle concentrations in the indoor environment to provide improved occupant health due to reduced exposure. Typical air filters, which are usually used in ventilation systems are able to reduce indoor particle concentrations but are not able to reduce indoor gaseous concentrations.

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate in practice that filtration of supply air in multistory residential buildings by means of a further developed nanofiber filter can improve the indoor climate in residential buildings.

You are expected to have the following prerequisites:

  • Strong theoretical knowledge in building services engineering, including knowledge about ventilation, heating and cooling and heat and mass transport processes.
  • Good oral and writing skills in English and Danish

In your application, you must argument that your qualifications are relevant to the described project description and also your motivation for the position. Also add a short description (½-1 page) of what you would like to pay particular attention to in the project.

You may obtain further information from Professor Alireza Afshari, Department of Energy Performance, Indoor Environment and Sustainability of Buildings (EIS), phone: +45 23 47 93 87, email: concerning the scientific aspects of the stipend.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation. The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.
