Job description

A Postdoc position is available to explore the possibility to synthesize and stabilize channel-type cyclodextrin crystals. Channel-type cyclodextrin crystals display superior properties as e.g. absorbents, but are inherently instable. It is therefore important to uncover methods and processes that can lead to stabilized forms of these crystal structures.

We will attempt to synthesize stabilized channel-type cyclodextrin crystals by chemically cross-linking using different approaches including the use of gas phase or suspension based crosslinking techniques. The prospective Postdoc will be responsible for designing processes for synthesis of these materials in the laboratory and testing their properties as primarily effective and selective absorbents towards volatile organic molecules.

The Postdoc project is headed by Professor Kim Lambertsen Larsen and is co-supervised by Associate Professor Thorbjørn Terndrup Nielsen. The project is funded by the Villum Experiment Programme that supports“unorthodox ideas in their early phase”.  The prospective Postdoc will collaborate with other Postdocs and Ph.D. students in the group who are working on related projects regarding cyclodextrin science and technology and material science.

All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, regardless of their personal background. We value diversity and see it as a strength.

You may obtain further information about the scientific aspects of the project from Professor Kim Lambertsen Larsen,+45 9940 8521,kll@bio.aau.dk.

The place of employment is Aalborg University, and the place of work is Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Aalborg University, Fredrik Bajers Vej 7H, 9220 Aalborg Ø, Denmark.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, materials chemistry, materials engineering, or a closely related field. Experience with practical organic synthetic chemistry will be considered an advantage. The applicant must be interested in working in an interdisciplinary research environment. Excellent oral and written English language skills are a requirement. We are looking for a strong candidate with a documented track-record related to the synthesis of materials, and modification of carbohydrates, ideally also with an experience in cyclodextrin technology and material characterization..
The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

The application must contain the following:

  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas(Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position. References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

The applications are only to be submitted online by using the"Apply online" button below.
