At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Research Assistant in Qualitative Interviewing about Music Streaming Services is open for appointment from June 15, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 6 months. The position might be possible to extend. In electronic engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and societal impact. The Department of Electronic Systems employs more than 200 people, of which about 90 are PhD students, and about 40 % of all employees are internationals. In total, it has more than 600 students in its BSc and MSc programs, which are based on AAU's problem-based learning model. The department leverages its unique research infrastructure and lab facilities to conduct world-leading fundamental and applied research within communication, networks, control systems, AI, sound, cyber security, and robotics. Job description

The EU research project"Fair MusE" aims to make music streaming services more fair. The project examines how the recommender algorithms work, and it asks the users what they think about music recommendations they get and about the fairness of the music streaming services. We encourage people to share their music streaming data at our web portal https://portal.fairmuse.eu. At the portal we also recruit people for qualitative interviews on music recommendations. The Danish part of Fair MusE is located in the research group"Digital Transformation" at Department of Electronic Systems, AAU Copenhagen Campus. The research group focuses on the changes to society- e.g. the music sector- that the digitalisation produces.

Your tasks will be to find, interview and analyse interviews with users of music streaming services. You will also be developing and adjusting the interview guide in collaboration with the other researchers in the project. Your tasks will include finding and recruiting users, who want to share their music streaming data with the project.

The research project is European, and it has partners in eight European countries. We will recruit and interview users across the whole of Europe; preferably we will conduct the interviews in the users' native languages and afterwards translate into English using DeepL.

Our office is located at AAU Copenhagen Campus, Sydhavnen, which is well connected with Metro, S-trains and busses.

Your background:

- You have professional experience within music, interviewing or culture in general
- You love to make qualitative interviews, to listen to interviewees and ask follow-up questions
- You like to approach and talk to people
- You do not need to have a technical background

From your cover letter we would like to know about your background. We would also like to read your ideas for how to find and recruit people for interviewing and data donation. Qualification requirements:
The required level of qualifications is at master level.

  • Current CV(including personal data).
  • Copy of relevant diplomas(Master of Science and, if any, PhD) On request you could be asked for an official English translation.

  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like(optional).
  • References/recommendations.

Appointment to Research Assistant may be for a period of up to three years. Reappointment may be made, but a Research Assistant can only be appointed to Research Assistant for a period of maximum three years. Wages and employment

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
