Job description

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a 2-year position as Research Assistant in high power radio frequency converter is open for appointments from July 1, 2025, or soon hereafter.

AAU Energy is a dynamic engineering research department in continuous growth and inspiring surroundings.
AAU Energy has a very international environment and covers all areas of clean and sustainable energy systems of the future within electrical, thermal and mechatronic energy technology. AAU Energy has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position is in Aalborg.
The mission is to be world leader in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 25 are administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.
The position is offered in relation to the research program Power Electronics Packaging Materials and Emerging Applications and the research assistant will be positioned in the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.

Your work tasks and competencies
Research areas will be within radio frequency high power applications.
A material physicist background is preferred and with an interest in electronics and proven ability to turn project goals into hardware solutions. You should be able to understand the impedance matching theory and have practical experience with impedance networks for systems operating at 13.56MHz. The power level is in the multi kW range, and the voltages are +1000V and you should be familiar with the safety requirements and experimental laboratory work. The position also includes the design of system components as inductors, so you are required to have experience in designing and manufacturing high current +10A radio frequency inductors. You must have the ability to understand the function of power converters to a level you can design and build functional radio frequency high power systems for kW power delivery into a resistive load.

Qualification requirements 
Appointment as a research assistant requires academic qualifications at master's degree level.

Wages and employment
