Your work tasks and competencies
The IKE Research Group at Aalborg University Business School is currently seeking a Professor in Innovation Studies.

The Research Group on Innovation, Knowledge and Economic dynamics (IKE at Aalborg University Business School (AAUBS) has a history spanning over more than 40 years in innovation and entrepreneurship research. The group is an acknowledged contributor to the global innovation and industrial dynamics research community.

We are seeking applicants with an ambitious research agenda that can document research and teaching experience within one or more of the following areas:

  • Organization-level innovation with a particular emphasis on external collaboration on innovation
  • Innovation activities in different types of settings (including sector and industry-specific studies)
  • Industry evolution
  • Regional aspects of innovation, labour mobility, and knowledge creation and exchange.

The professor is expected to take a leading role in developing excellence within the research field of Innovation Studies.

This leading role includes contributing to the continued development of a strong internal collective research community, and a supportive and inspiring environment for PhD students (including PhD supervision), junior researchers, as well as more experienced researchers in developing their academic careers. It also involves engaging with external national and international stakeholders and partners to enable collaboration and external funding for projects.

As a member of the IKE Research Group, you will join a supportive community dedicated to producing internationally recognized research. You are expected to engage actively in joint IKE activities. The group’s primary focus is on industrial dynamics, encompassing innovation and industrial transformation, regional innovation systems, entrepreneurship, technological changes, sustainability and green transition, as well as the emergence and implications of new technologies.

Prioritized academic journals for the IKE Group include Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change, Regional Studies, Small Business Economics, Industry and Innovation, Technovation, Journal of Business Venturing, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. These journals are high-level journals, and we do expect applicants to have publications at this level and the interest in pursuing publication in these or equivalent journals.

The IKE group’s research is based on diverse research methods, spanning from quantitative methods on register, survey, and patent data, to various qualitative methods; also emphasizing the interplay between qualitative and quantitative methods and data. There is a growing focus on novel computational methods such as NLP, machine learning, and AI within the group.

Teaching activities in the position include lecturing, supervision, coordination and planning of Problem Based Learning (PBL) programs at bachelor and master levels as well as PhD supervision and training. Applicants must document pedagogical skills, curricula development experience and educational program management. Emphasis will be placed on a comprehensive teaching experience in core business school fields such as macro- and/or microeconomics, as well as innovation- and entrepreneurship-related areas.

While the main working language at AAUBS is English, teaching programs at undergraduate level are mainly taught in Danish. Please note that non-Danish speaking employees will undergo a course in basic Danish language qualifications within the first two years of employment.

The position as professor is a permanent position with obligation to research, teaching and publication/academic dissemination.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must be able to document a high degree of original academic production at an international level and experience from teaching at different levels. Including tests/exams, course/study programme management as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material.

Emphasis is placed on the extent, to which the applicant, has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.

Emphasis may moreover be placed on the applicant’s ability to carry out and develop research-based public-sector consultancy. Also, emphasis will be placed on an assessment of the applicant’s ability to perform research and teaching management tasks and possibly fulfil other functions, for example in relation to the university’s external cooperation.

Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant's ability to undertake pedagogical supervision, supervision and academic assessment work.

Emphasis will be placed on the applicant's ability to take a leading role in contributing to a strong internal collective research community and external collaboration with national and international partners, which involves experience with research and management of research groups and research projects. In particular applicants must document an ability to attract substantial external funding for research activities.

Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to make a substantial contribution to the development of the Business School’s study programs as well as to the development of new types of further education and/or educational collaborations with external partners. It will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with PBL.
