Postdoc position in modeling and analysis of cyber-physical systems
At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, a full-time postdoc position in modeling and analysis of cyber-physical systems is available from March 15 th or as soon as possible thereafter. The employment will be for a period of 12-24 months.
The candidate will be part of the section Distributed, Embedded and Distributed Systems: https://www.cs.aau.dk/research/distributed-embedded-intelligent-systems/
The Department of Computer Science features a broad range of synergistic activities within research and education in the general area of computer science, including curiosity-driven research and targeted research in collaboration with industrial partners, traditional university education with a unique problem- and project-based focus, and continued education and knowledge dissemination.
Your work tasks
The work is shared between two projects.
One project is across the North Sea region, addressing safety-critical water infrastructure that runs on aging software. When it fails, the impact can be severe: disruption, financial loss, and safety risks. The project delivers practical solutions to make critical infrastructure software reliable and future-proof. The position will mainly be tasked to collaborate with the Danish infrastructure authorities on a pilot at the Danish coast. The tasks involve the modeling of a sluice, which will then be used in a learning framework to design an automatic controller to optimize the usage of the sluice under various conditions.
The other project will address challenges related to Sustainable Water-based cooling in Mega-cities. Research questions include “how can digital twins of buildings a number of specified critical properties (temperature, cooling load demand, energy consumption, potential leaks, etc.) be used for online monitored such that warnings will be made as soon as the probability of given threshold values are exceeded and becoming critically high”. In addition, “how can the digital twins be used to provide on-line predictions as to the future expected evolution of these critical properties as the basis for safe reinforcement learning (RL) for on-line optimal control”. In particular, the candidate will investigate enhancement of RL controllers in multi-agent settings and by incorporating optimization techniques such as multi-objective optimization. Overall, the candidate will contribute to overall optimization minimizing CO2 emissions and overall cost.’
