The Faculty of Medicine at Aalborg University (AAU) now offers postdoc positions that are open to any field of health science within the scope of the Faculty’s research areas. The selection process is entirely focused on scientific merits and strong performance in relevant skills, e.g. research management, funding, dissemination, and collaboration.
We are recruiting several postdoctoral researchers, starting 1 January 2027 or soon thereafter. The positions are available for a period of 3 years and available for candidates with a PhD from another university than Aalborg University.
The positions are open to outstanding candidates who wish to develop and lead their own independent research project within one of the faculty’s research areas. Thus, applicants are expected to propose a novel and ambitious 3-year research project aligned with the faculty’s research profile and embedded in one of the faculty’s research groups.
Who are we?
At the Faculty of Medicine (www.medicine.aau.dk), we conduct research ranging from basic health research to translational and clinical research with a focus on digital health. Apart from striving for excellence within specialized disciplines, it is our vision to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between health professionals and engineers, focusing on finding solutions to societal challenges together.
- We conduct research focusing on digital and technological health solutions in an interdisciplinary interaction between the biomedical and the engineering sciences. Clinicians and researchers from various professional backgrounds collaborate to develop, implement, and apply research-based knowledge. - We aim to create societal value through research that addresses concrete healthcare challenges and positioning the Faculty of Medicin as a frontrunner in the use of data, technology, and new methodologies.
The faculty comprises two departments:
- Department of Health Science and Technology, focusing on biomedical sciences, health technology, digital health, and interdisciplinary research (www.hst.aau.dk)
- Department of Clinical Medicine, focusing on clinical research within 39 different specialties, clinical data science, biomedical science, and health services research (www.klinisk.aau.dk)
Each department is organized in a number of research groups, and the proposed research project should fit within one of these.
The successful candidates will be employed in the relevant department.
You will become part of a research group that concentrates on a specific field within the broader research areas of medicine, health science and technology.
What are our expectations?
As a postdoctoral researcher your tasks are to:
- Conduct the studies necessary to answer the research questions of your project.
- Write up research results in the form of journal articles.
- Participate in and co-arrange national and international research conferences and be exposed to external research environments, for example, as a visiting researcher.
- Contribute to the teaching obligations of the research group.
- Supervise undergraduate students and PhD students.
- Disseminate the results of your research to the public.
- Secure own funding, ie grants for specific project leadership tasks.
- Participate in the day-to-day life of the research group (e.g., research meetings, seminars, social activities) and participate in relevant research activities and interdisciplinary interactions at department or university level.
- Develop a solid background in your research area that will allow you to foster a curious and critical sense to analyse and interpret scientific information.
- Further develop competences towards an academic or industrial research career.

Who are you?
You are a highly qualified and committed postdoctoral researcher who demonstrates great research potential through the drafting of a novel and ambitious 3-year research project aligned with the faculty’s research profile and fitting into one of the faculty’s research groups.
You hold a PhD in medicine, biomedical engineering, biomedicine, epidemiology, or a related field, from another university than Aalborg University.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team are expected. A high level of English proficiency (orally and written) is expected. Good dissemination skills are important.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

- A current curriculum vitae (e.g. using the EU model), clearly stating your educational background, experience, techniques, language skills and other skills or experiences relevant for this position.
- Diplomas (MSc/MA/MD and PhD).
- List of publications, with an indication of the attached publications that you wish to be taken into account in the assessment. You may attach a maximum of five publications.
- Documentation of teaching qualifications if relevant.
- Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations etc.
- Additional qualifications in relation to the position (e.g., clinical experience).

Salary and terms of employment
The employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (in Danish) and protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities (in Danish).
Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state (AC collective agreement) (only in Danish) and protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities (only in Danish).
There is a mutual probationary period of 3 months for the position.
