Postdoc in Stability and Control of Grid-Interactive Power Electronics Systems (2018-224-01995)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, a 2-year position as Postdoc in Stability and Control of Grid-Interactive Power Electronics Systems is open for appointment from 1 January 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 280 employees – out of them are more than 110 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program Electronic Power Grid Infrastructure and the postdoc will be positioned to the section for Power Electronic Systems.

Job description

Research areas will be in the power electronics for renewable energy systems, flexible ac power transmission systems (FACTS), high-/medium-voltage direct current (HVDC/MVDC) techniques. Experiences in the linearized modeling, stability and harmonics analysis, grid-interactive control of power electronics converters and systems are of interest.

A successful application prerequisite that the applicant demonstrates a documented expertise in most of the areas below:
•    Linearized modeling of grid-interactive power electronics systems considering the impacts of control dynamics
•    Harmonics and stability analysis of power-electronic-based power systems, such as solar and wind power plants, distributed generation (DG) clusters, meshed dc grids.
•    Grid-interactive control of inverter-based resources in both transmission and distribution power grids, e.g. seamless transfer between grid-following and grid-forming operations, inertia emulation, and fault ride-through, etc.
•    Digital signal processing and control of power electronics systems.

Finally, demonstrated international impact and teaching experience in the related field will be considered.

Teaching will primarily be in study programmes in Energy, with main focus on Power Electronics and Stability Analysis of Power Systems, but also in other study programmes at the university.
Supervisions of Master and PhD students will also play an important role.

Qualification requirements

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
