Assistant Professor in Media Technology

Aalborg University Copenhagen seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Media Technology. The appointee will be expected to engage in research and teaching in the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology at the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, on the Copenhagen Campus of Aalborg University, providing input and support to currently offered programmes, including Media Technology, Lighting Design, and Sound and Music Computing. The position is available for appointment for a three year period from January 15 2019 or soon thereafter and with the possibility of an extension of the position for a fourth year. The Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description

We are looking for someone who can strengthen the department’s current cross-disciplinary media technology research and add innovative ideas and collaboration, with particular focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Areas of current research activities at the department where AI can be applied include applied machine and reinforcement learning for various applications, e.g, games, smart sensor systems, real-world systems, etc.

Other areas include deep learning frameworks and applications; generative machine learning models for audio-visual content generation; image-based learning; intelligent lighting applications; image, sound and music media information retrieval for interactive applications;  machine learning for EEG analysis, interactive narrative structures, player/user evaluations and gesture analysis for human activity/behaviour recognition in dance and performance.

The successful applicant’s particular skills and background will determine his/her placing in an existing research group within the department.

Teaching obligations will be primarily carried out within the Medialogy (Bachelor and Master) study programs with responsibility for the courses ‘Machine Learning for Media Technology’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence Programming’, as well as the supervision of students’ projects. The successful candidate is therefore expected to have documented research and teaching experience in related subjects.

The department anticipates that the successful applicant will have a documented publication record, experience of funding acquisition and research projects and will show potential to collaborate with industrial and academic partners in relevant areas.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
