Postdoc – The Digital Supply Chain

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production a position as postdoc in Operations Management and Digital Supply Chain is open for appointment from January 2019 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of two years. Department of Materials and Production (MP) is a wide-ranging research and educational environment at Aalborg University. The Department's mission is to meet the future's demands for new materials and production systems by directing the whole value chain from basic material understanding, materials' applications in mechanical constructions, industrial production and management. The department has several strong, international and innovative research groups, which comprise everything from basic science to strategic and applicable research. The activities encompass research as well as education within materials, mechanics, physics, production technique, and industrial management and innovation. Benefitting the industry and additional collaborators, several innovative and unconventional collaborations have been and are developed through interdisciplinary co-operations. Thereby, as an employee at the Department you will become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing/building and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Job description

Research areas will be within the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management. The positions is scoped in the domain of the Digital Supply Chain, with a particular attention to operations planning and control and/or supply chain design, analytics and decision-making. Your role will not only be a source of inspiration and a facilitator of change, but a leader and driver of innovation, sustainability and competence development in the area. This means that the position builds on continuous contact and collaboration with the business community and authorities in order to achieve societal changes and renewal through knowledge development and innovation.

Job description

The position is researched-focused, consisting of approximately 50% research and innovation, 40% teaching, and 10% of administration workload. The tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Conducting scientific research that meets high international standards, publishing in scholarly outlets, and communicating the results of your research to industry and to the society at large.
  • Participating in the process of obtaining external research funding for research and innovation projects.
  • Actively making contact, collaborating, and building networks with industry, higher education institutions, and actors in the wider society. The candidate will be connected to the national research and development platform MADE (www.made.dk) and will with an outset in this collaborative forum be expected to build a basis for his/her future research and outreach profile.
  • Contributing to the competence development of students by providing research-based teaching, supervision, and curriculum development within the themes of Operations & Supply Chain Management at the BSc and MSc levels.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
