Postdoc in Proteomics

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience a position as Postdoc in proteomics is open for appointment from 01.03.2019 - 28.02.2022 or soon hereafter. The position is supported by PROVIDE, the Innovation Fund Denmark, and the Villum Foundation. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Biology & Environmental Science, one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology and one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering. The position is located within the Section of Biotechnology with working place in Aalborg.

Job description

PROVIDE is a collaborative project between five companies and two universities with the aim to create new high value food and feed ingredients from protein sources that are currently under-utilized. Bioinformatics will be used to predict and identify embedded peptides that can be released from proteins through hydrolysis, fermentation and separation. The prioritized functionalities of peptides are antimicrobials, antioxidants, texturants, flavorings and flavor enhancers. The participating companies utilize specific protein sources, mainly plant-based, and are united in the desire to develop novel high value food and feed functional ingredients through the proposed technology. Proteomics will be a key technology applied during several parts of the development process for each of the different protein sources.

The Villum foundation support research on uncultured microorganisms from biotechnological important ecosystems such as bioenergy production and wastewater treatment. Proteomics is a key technology to reveal novel enzymes and ecophysiologies of important microorganisms along with use of metagenomics and metatranscriptomics.

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.
