At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine a position as Postdoc in genetic screening with CRISPR/Cas9 technology in malignant B-cell cancers is open for appointment from June 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 2,5 year. The Department of Clinical Medicine was established January 1. 2013. The department is located in connection with Aalborg University Hospital where research, education and clinical work is United. The Department of Clinical Medicine does clinical research within all the clinical disciplines and delivers research-based teaching to all areas of the medical master’s degree program. Furthermore, the Department of Clinical Medicine has around 40 research units each with their own speciality. Many of the research units are organized in interdisciplinary collaborations within larger research areas such as coronary diseases, cancer and neurological conditions.

Job description

We are a research group with expertise in mechanisms of pathogenesis and treatment resistance in hematologic cancers by in-depth molecular characterization of tumor cells and their microenvironment combined with functional evaluation of drugs and molecular aberrations in preclinical model systems. We are now initiating a project where mechanisms of treatment resistance in relapsed hematologic cancers must be identified using global genetic screening with lentiviral CRISPR/Cas9 technology, human cell culture assays, viral vector production, flow cytometry, and combinational drug screens.

We therefore seek a highly qualified candidate with documented background in global genetic screening with lentiviral CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Solid experience in cell culture assays and standard molecular biology techniques is required and knowledge of hematology, drug response mechanism and clinical risk stratification is desirable. The successful candidate must have strong skills in English and proven abilities to publish with at least one first author publication. Motivation to work independently and be responsible for the daily management of his/her research project in coordination with other members of the group is expected. The candidate will also be actively involved in the training and co-supervision of other group members and students.

The location of the project will be at the hematologic research section affiliated to the Department of Hematology, Aalborg University Hospital. The hematologic research section has 25 employees with different academic and educational background, a broad international collaborative network and a research focus on mechanisms controlling treatment resistance and precision medicine.
