Associate Professor in Thermochemistry and Advanced Bioprocessing (2019-224-02088)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology a position as Associate Professor in Thermochemistry and Advanced Bioprocessing is open for appointment from 1. March 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 280 employees – out of them are more than 100 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program Advanced Biofuels and the associate professor will be positioned to the section for Thermofluids.

Job description

Research areas will be within thermochemistry with specific focus on hydro-/solvothermal and thermal catalytic processes, with specific focus on HTL and associated processes. The expected research topics will include fundamental studies into conversion processes of biomass and organic material under hydro-/solvothermal conditions, into the energy and reaction intermediates, as well as more engineering-level topics including process design, integration, optimization and techno-economics.

Teaching will primarily be within the Energy Study Programme, Thermal Specialization, but also in other study programmes at the University. As Aalborg University places significant emphasis on quality in education, strong teaching skills will be prioritized and experience and achievements must therefore be documented.

The successful applicant is expected to engage in a number of Horizon 2020 RIAs at both research and managerial level, as well as contribute to the management of the research programme on advanced biofuels. He/she is also expected to participate in funding acquisition, both as a team member and as PI, at national as well as international level. Thus, competences and/or experience within research management and funding should be documented, as should language proficiency (oral/written English fluency). Furthermore, specific competences and/or experience within thermochemical processing of biomass, both theoretical and experimental work including chemical analysis, should be highlighted in the application. Specifically, experience with laboratory setups should be described (ie lab/pilot scale, batch/continuous, developer/user level etc).

Applicants should have a PhD degree, preferably in relevant fields of chemical or thermal/mechanical engineering. He/she should document active research through an up to date publication list, as well as indicate key publications.
