One or more PhD Stipends in Signal Processing Techniques for Massive MIMO systems (8-18071G)

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, one or more PhD stipends in signal processing techniques for Massive MIMO Systems are available within the study Programme Wireless Communications. The fully funded stipends are open for appointment from 15 February 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

Massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) is a key technology in cellular communication systems for increasing area spectral efficiency. It is one of the most promising technologies for the next generation of wireless communication networks. The research topics considered during the PhD projects are mostly based on signal processing techniques. They include but not limited to: a) distributed architectures, Cloud-RAN, b) Beamforming design, c) Massive MIMO for ultra-reliable communications.

The project is funded by The Danish Council for Independent Research. It will take place at the Connectivity (CNT) section, Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University.

The successful applicant must have a Master degree in statistical signal processing, wireless communications, machine learning, applied statistics or similar. The applicant is expected to have a very strong mathematical background. Furthermore, knowledge of radio channel characterization is an advantage. Excellent undergraduate and master degree grades are expected. A high level of written and spoken English is also expected

You may obtain further information from Professor MSO Elisabeth de Carvalho (email: edc@es.aau.dk ), Department of Electronic Systems, concerning the scientific aspects of the stipend.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT adn Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.
