Postdoc in Machine learning for wireless communications

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as postdoc in Machine learning for wireless communications is open for appointment from June 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 12 months. The Department of Electronic Systems is one of the largest departments at Aalborg University with a total of more than 230 employees. The department is internationally recognized in particular for its contributions within Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The research and teaching of the Department of Electronic Systems focus on electronic engineering and the activity areas are organized in the sections: Antennas, Propagation and Millimetre-wave Systems section (APMS), Automation Control section (Control), Connectivity section (CNT), Signal and Information Processing section (SIP), Wireless Communication Networks section (WCN) and Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI).   The department focuses on maintaining a close interplay with the university’s surroundings - locally, nationally and internationally – as well as producing unique basic research and educating talented and creative engineers. The department collaborates with leading ICT researchers all over the world.

Job description

We seek to appoint a PostDoc to take part in research and knowledge exchange in the research project FTP Celest, which is a project funded by the Danish government in the area of massive MIMO.  

Wireless communication networks are entering an era of massive connectivity, massive density, extreme service demands and massive data. This shift calls for new tools based on machine learning to reinvent the methods for network management and optimization. Research in machine learning for wireless communications is currently exploding. It is a new application domain for machine learning and promises to bring major innovations in the field of wireless communications and also in machine learning as advances in machine learning are required to fit the specific requirements of wireless communications.

The focus of this postdoctoral position is on the use of machine learning techniques to optimize massive MIMO systems. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate within a team of researchers working on machine learning, signal processing, information theory and protocol designs applied to diverse wireless systems.

 We seek candidates with the following profile:

- Ph.D. in communication engineering, signal processing, or machine learning.

- Research track record proven through publications in top journals and conferences, such as the ones from IEEE and ACM.

- Willingness to work a the intersection of communication engineering and machine learning. An strong expertise in machine learning is a plus.

- Readiness to interact with industrial partners and engage in collaborative projects.  

Industrial collaboration, teaching experience, as well as experience from collaborative multinational projects can be considered as a plus.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
