One or more PhD stipends in Analysis of blockchain in port management based on historical and real-time data (6-19022)

At the Facualty of Engineering and Science, Department of Civil Engineering, Division of Transportation Engineering, Freight Transport Research Group one or more PhD stipends are available within the general research programme Civil Engineering. The stipends are open for appointment from 15 June 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is available for 36 months.

Job description

Multimodal freight transport has been a key focus in research for years. One of the challenges of multimodal freight transport is to optimize the interactions between various actors, in both the road, rail and water area. Currently the emergence of new technologies, especially Block-chain technology, is being seen as a promising new technology in relation to for example optimizations of paper flows between actors in freight transport networks.

The Ph.D. candidate will be working with real-time and historical data, to develop and test models and guidelines on how to optimize multimodal freight transport through Danish ports and cities using block-chain technology. Experience from working with software development, business modelling, freight transport or massive data sets will be an advantage. Knowledge of decentralized databases and blockchain is considered as a strong advantage.

Bling research project

The applicant is expected to primarily work on the ongoing BLING research project, and also support the research in other ongoing research projects for example within collaborative logistics. In bling the applicant is expected to do both research and administrative tasks.

Teaching activities

The candidate is expected to conduct both teaching and student supervision activities within research field of the research group.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT adn Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.
