Professorship with focus on quality in early childhood education and care

At the Department of Culture and Learning, Aalborg University, a professor position in early childhood education and care (ECEC) with particular focus on quality in early childhood education and care is available as of 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a full-time permanent position that includes both research and teaching activities. <p>The applicant will be a part of the Department of Culture and Learning. It is important that the applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department, including both teaching and supervision. The position is based at the campus in Aalborg, however since Aalborg University is situated in both Aalborg and Copenhagen, the applicant should expect some travel activity between Aalborg and Copenhagen.</p>

Job description

The position
Quality in early childhood education and care is a growing field of research, and there is a strong need for research that can inform, and contribute to the development of high quality practices. The applicant will be expected to contribute to strengthen research activity and output as well as contributing to the high profile of research within the understandings of quality in the area of early childhood education and care (ECEC) at Aalborg University.

The position is part of the department’s decision to strengthen research and innovation in Early Childhood Education and Care. The applicant must take a lead in this strategic development, and in partnerships develop research in this field that can contribute to knowledge based solutions to challenges in Early Childhood Education and Care. Particular focus is on organizational development and capacity building approaches and how research and practice can work together in finding solutions to challenges in ECEC.

The applicant will be expected to contribute to Aalborg University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange, as well as to provide academic leadership relating to research, education and academic development.

Research
The applicant will be expected to take a leading role in further developing the area of early childhood education and care (ECEC), and to contribute to research initiatives in relation to both the field of early childhood education and care and the general educational community at Aalborg University in terms of new research projects with internal and external partners, and external research funding.

Applicants must therefore be able to document original scientific production at the highest international level, as well as significant scholarly contributions to theoretical and thematic developments of quality within early childhood learning, development and education.

Furthermore, applicants are asked to state their visions for future developments in the field, and to document a solid track record in research leadership as well as research funding and research cooperation.

Teaching
The applicant will be expected to have solid experience of teaching at university level, and should be prepared to teach and supervise at all levels of the degree programme. The applicant will also be expected to be the driving force in developing new degree programmes within the field of education.

Talent development
The professor will be expected to contribute to talent development within the field of early childhood education and care. He/she will be expected to recruit and supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the applicant will engage in knowledge exchange for instance in research cooperation with municipalities, private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
The applicant must provide research plans and explain how he/she will meet the expectations of the professorship with regard to the strengthening and development of research and teaching in early childhood education, learning and development.
 
The applicant must also be able to document:

  • Academic publications at the highest international level, including research innovation in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC)
  • Experience with active participation in international research collaboration
  • Experience with research organisation including the obtaining and administration of external funding in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC)
  • Strong teaching competences and experience of supervising at all levels
  • Commitment to teaching development, the supervision of student projects, talent development, research management and the development of PhD courses.

The applicant will be expected to contribute to the department’s academic environment. We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students.

The applicant is expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in Danish. Alternatively, the successful applicant is expected to acquire relevant linguistic competence within an agreed timeframe.
