Assistant Professor in Capacitors for Power Electronic Systems

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, a three-year position as Assistant Professor in capacitors in power electronic systems is open for appointment from December 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics and Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 300 employees – out of them are more than 125 Ph.D. students. The laboratory facilities are world-class and the researches carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program "Efficient and Reliable Power Electronics" and will be positioned to the section "Power Electronic Systems".

Job description

Research areas for this assistant professor position will primarily be within capacitor applications in power electronic systems. The main research topic will focus on characterization, optimization, activation, and reliability of capacitors in power electronic applications. The candidate must have a strong research background in power electronics and reliability engineering. The applicant should also have experiences and capability of conducting research projects. More specifically, a successful applicant should document strong ability in the majority of the following aspects: 

  • Background in power electronics and reliability
  • Accelerated lifetime testing of capacitors
  • Failure and reliability analysis of capacitors
  • Modeling, design and optimization of capacitor banks for power electronics
  • Thermal management and reliability-oriented design of capacitors
  • Active realization of passive capacitors
  • Advanced control and circuit design for capacitance reduction
  • Higher power density, high efficiency and high reliability power converter design
  • Teaching and supervision experience is preferred, which will primarily be in the areas of capacitors, power electronics and reliability engineering

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.
