Research assistant in quantitative statistical analyses on energy consumption in a sociological perspective

At Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a position is open in assisting statistical analysis on socio-economic register data combined with survey and energy consumption data. The position is at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Danish Building Research Institute (Statens Byggeforskningsinstitut) and is open for appointment from December 1st, 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is for two years.

Job description

The research group Sustainable Cities and Everyday Practices (SCEP) at Danish Building Research Institute conducts research into understanding social aspects of sustainability and consumption in an everyday perspective within the built environment. We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods within different social science perspectives, including Science and Technology Studies and Theories of Practices. The research group is placed at the Department of Housing, Town and Property, working with social aspect of housing and cities.  

The research assistant will be working in a team together with post docs and senior researchers in exploring register data on the Danish population combined with detailed data on energy consumption. The candidate especially has to contribute in cleaning and preparing data for analysis, but also contributing to the analyses and the communication and presentation of data and results. In addition, the research assistant will work on the data collection and analysis of surveys targeted Danish households investigating their practices shaping energy use.

Qualification requirements:
Aalborg University is looking for talented candidates with skills to conduct statistical analysis from a social science perspective, for example with a background in sociology, economy, social geography or other relevant educations.

The applicant needs to

  • Have data processing skills using statistical programs such as Stata, R or SAS
  • Have experience with register data from Danish administrative records

Advantageous competences:

  • Applied micro econometrics skills
  • Knowledge of or interest in the Danish energy sector
  • Data visualization skills
  • Experience with conducting surveys

Candidates should have the ability to work in a team as well as independently and be good at networking. The candidates must have excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) and basic knowledge of Danish language for working with Danish register data and surveys.

Appointment to Research Assistant may be for a period of up to three years. Reappointment may be made, but a Research Assistant can only be appointed to Research Assistant for a period of maximum three years. Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
