Assistant Professor in Fungal Biotechnology

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience a position as Assistant Professor in Fungal Biotechnology is open for appointment from in the period 01.01.2019 - 31.12.2021 or soon hereafter. The Department consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Environmental Technology, one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering and one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology. The position is located within the section of Sustainable Biotechnology with working place in Copenhagen.

Job description

The Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience is seeking a dynamic, motivated, problem-solving Assistant Professor to join an extraordinary team of scientists and experts in Sustainable Biotechnology. The successful applicant shall participate in development of research in fungal biotechnology under the frame of Biorefineries, participate in applying for external funding within the research area, function as supervisor for PhD fellows and master students, and develop and participate in teaching at the educations in Sustainable Biotechnology and to a limited extent in Technoanthropology.

The successful candidate must have experience with biorefinery concepts with special focus on fungal biocatalysts for production of enzymes and organic acids from complex media and biomass hydrolysates. The candidat should have a strong background within metabolic engineering, fungal microbiology. fungal biotechnology (filamentous fungi and yeast) and molecular biology and possess a demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed research commensurate with career level, demonstrated experience in student mentoring, teaching and teaching planning, and knowledge of problem and project based learning. It is a requirement that the candidate can teach in advanced Molecular Biology.

Additionally, evidence of excellent communication skills, both written and oral, documentation for ability to work in interdisciplinary teams to conduct transdisciplinary research and teaching.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.
