Postdoc in Energy Internet of Things and Microgrids

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology a position as Postdoc in Energy Internet of Things and Microgrids is open for appointment from February 1st., 2020 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 300 employees – out of them are more than 125 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the Research Program on Microgrids and the postdoc will be positioned to Section 3: Power Electronic Systems.

Job description

The postdoctoral position is linked to the Villum Investigator grant which supports the new Center for Research on Microgrids (CROM) within the research framework of Energy Internet which combines Internet of Things (IoT) and Microgrids technologies. This role will be compatible to our modern and well-equipped IoT Microgrid Laboratory to integrate IoT technologies and their architectures into energy networks, e.g. efficient energy management and optimization, intelligent load response and prediction capabilities, etc.
The research is a cross-disciplinary topic which requires that the candidate has a solid background on communication technologies and Microgrids control theory and methods. In this sense, hands-on software/firmware development capability are required. 
The applicant must hold a relevant PhD-degree or similar scientific qualifications. It is required that the candidate present more than 5 years software development experience in connection to Industry and to be highly familiar with the whole process of software lifecycle. The candidate must have a solid knowledge in FIWARE IoT architectures, communication protocols and databases such as mongoDB or CrateDB. It is required the skills within embedded development for device drivers with Java and C/C++ on Linux OS. Experience on software deployment and configuration experiences on Docker platform will be considered. At the same time, proved knowledge on Microgrids and parallel inverter systems control and stability analysis is additionally required.
The candidates are also expected to have a strong publication record in reputed journals and experience in teaching is an asset. Ability to work and communicate well as part of a team is essential.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
