At The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Business and Management at Aalborg University, a position as Professor with Special Responsibilities in Leading, Strategizing & Reflexivity focusing on developing the Problem-Based Learning platform of the studies, is available from 1 February 2020 or soon thereafter.

Job description

The position is a 5-year fixed term position with the possibility of a 3-year extension.

Applicants must be able to document international leading research qualifications at professor level, meaning that applicants should have made a mark on an international level within their chosen field of research. It is expected that applicants can present a strong and impactful research agenda illustrating potential research excellence and impact. 


Applicants should also demonstrate intellectual and research leadership by proving their ability to engage with other researchers and to guide junior faculty in their career planning. As professor, one is expected to contribute to the achievement of the departments overall strategy and to act out intellectual leadership by taking on the role of research group leader if needed. This should go hand in hand with proven experience in designing and coordinating research projects as well as attracting external funding.


High-quality teaching at all levels is necessary to obtain the position of Professor. This should be reflected in superior teaching evaluations. Aalborg University applies a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) perspective to its education activities and experience with PBL is required. Also, establishing relationships with the business community is of high importance in supporting the profile of the department and hence candidates are expected to contribute to knowledge exchange and dissemination of research results.

The Department of Business and Management at Aalborg University conducts research in a wide array of business disciplines. The department is in the process of preparing itself for an accreditation and transformation into a business school with a strong focus on corporate involvement.

Qualification requirements

It is presupposed that applicants can document a high degree of original scientific production at an international level, and can document having contributed considerably to the development of the subject area of the job description. Furthermore, applicants must account for their potential to further develop the subject area. Emphasis will be placed on the applicant's ability to perform research management and other management functions, provide pedagogical guidance as well as supervision and take part in academic assessments. Special emphasis will be placed on the potential of the applicant to undertake the specific projects related to this position, cf. job description. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be able to read Danish.

Moreover, it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
