Associate Professor in Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning one or more positions as Associate Professor in Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education is open for appointment from 1 of July 2020 or soon thereafter. The positon/s will be based in Aalborg. The Department of Planning conducts research and teaching on development and planning in a broad sense, including social-science aspects as well as more technical aspects of development, and with a focus on environmental, international as well as administrative dimensions.

Job description

The main research area will be within the field of problem based learning (PBL) in engineering education. The position will be related to the Centre for Problem-based Learning in Engineering Science and Sustainability under the auspices of UNESCO (UCPBL). The researcher will be working in a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, who are committed to the vision and mission of the Centre. (http://www.ucpbl.net/about/vision-mission/).

The applicants should demonstrate research experience within the field of PBL related to one or more of the following areas:

  • Digitalised learning and the role of emerging technologies such as AI and robotics
  • Professional Practice and Continuing Engineering Education
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in a lifelong learning perspective
  • Management of change in engineering education institutions

Teaching will be related to PBL including courses, workshops and consultancy offered at all Engineering and Science programmes at Aalborg University at different levels of study, as well as staff training internally at AAU and externally in the Master of Problem Based Learning, the UCPBL certificate programme or in tailor made training courses by request. Teaching experience from a PBL environment is an advantage.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
