Associate Professor in Computer Science - Copenhagen Campus

The Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University’s Technical Faculty of IT and Design is looking to appoint a number of Associate Professors for its new group at the university's Copenhagen Campus, commencing September 1, 2020 or soon thereafter. In 2020, the Department of Computer Science will begin building a new research group at Aalborg University’s Copenhagen Campus. The group will be responsible for the newly approved bachelor's and master's educations in “Software” and will over time build its own research profile and capacity. The Copenhagen group will build upon, and contribute to the Department’s broad range of synergistic activities within research and education in the general area of computer science, including curiosity-driven research and targeted research in collaboration with industrial partners, as well as traditional university education, with a unique problem- and project-based focus, and continued education and knowledge dissemination.

Job description

As Associate Professor in Computer Science at the Copenhagen Campus you are expected to deliver teaching of an international standard on the new Software education commencing in September 2020. The Software education is already offered at the Aalborg Campus with the same subjects. You are also expected to contribute to establishing and running this new education in close collaboration with colleagues from the department’s Aalborg Campus. 

Specifically, you must be able to deliver courses on Imperative and Object-Oriented Programming at bachelor's level. Experience with Problem Based Learning is an advantage.

You are expected to conduct research in Computer Science at an international level. Facilitating this, you will take part in building a new research group, covering the topics taught in the Software education. You will initially be associated with one of the department’s three research groups:

Database, Programming and Web technologies 
This group emphasizes on data-intensive systems and platforms, spatio-temporal data management, data analytics and mining, application of machine learning, programming technologies, web science and engineering, personalization, and user modeling. http://www.cs.aau.dk/research/database-and-programming-technologies 

Distributed, Embedded and Intelligent Systems 
This group emphasizes on foundational and logical theories, algorithms and tools for verification and validation, methodologies for real-time and embedded systems, networks and operating systems, probabilistic graphical models, and machine learning. http://www.cs.aau.dk/research/distributed-embedded-intelligent-systems/ 

Human-Centered Computing
This group emphasizes on the design, development, and use of interactive computer systems from a human-centered perspective, including software engineering, digitalization, human-computer interaction, interaction design, and digital innovation.

Qualification requirements
The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:

• A clear statement of which one of the three research groups the applicant wishes to be associated with.
• A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
• A current curriculum vitae.
• Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
• A complete list of publications, with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
•Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
• Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organizations and the like.
• Personal data.
• References/recommendations.

Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
