Assistant Professor in Geodesy and Surveying

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning, one or more positions as Assistant Professor in Geodesy and Surveying are open for appointment from 1 August 2020 or soon hereafter. The position(s) are for 36 month and will be based in Copenhagen and/or Aalborg. The field of the Department for Planning includes development and planning in a broad sense, and thereby it ranges from technical subjects such as geodesy, surveying and geoinformatics, to the social science aspects of development like environmental management, physical planning, sector planning, and land management. At Department of Planning, we have about 200 employees situated at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campus. The department provides excellent research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique combination of social and technological understanding where digital and technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research creates the foundation for educating the young people of tomorrow, and as part of Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and problem-oriented approach. It is also at Department of Planning that the UNESCO Center for Problem-Based Learning is at home. That helps ensure, we create educations aimed at the job market and a society with increasing focus on technology, digitization, sustainability and partnerships for a sustainable transition.

Job description

The position is allocated in the Geodesy research group, which covers a broad range of geodetic topics like reference frames, surveying, GNSS, uplift, subsidence, earth observation, and surveying technology. The research is currently focused on the development within Galileo and the transition from differential positioning and observation state representation to precise point positioning and state space representation as well as the implications on the choice of reference frames. The teaching activities as Assistant Professor will include lecturing, practical exercises, supervision, coordination, and planning of courses and semesters at bachelor and master level primarily within surveying.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
