1-2 Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Social Work

At The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology and Social Work 1-2 positions as associate professor/assistant professor in social work is open for appointment from 1st of June 2020, or soon there after.

Job description

The positions should contribute substantially to strengthening the department’s international and national research profile in social work. Applicants must demonstrate strong competences in the research field including theories, methods and empirical research areas related to social work. Experience with practise within the field of Social Work will be an advantage.

Teaching activities within the position include lecturing, supervision, coordination and planning at the Master of Social Work, at the Bachelor of social work and the various other programmes of social work at Department of Sociology and Social Work.

Qualification requirements
It is presupposed that applicants can document a high degree of original scientific production at an international level, and can document having contributed considerably to the development of the subject area of the job description. Emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s ability to perform research management and other management functions, provide pedagogical guidance as well as supervision and take part in academic assessments. Furthermore emphasis will be placed on a comprehensive teaching experience.

Applicants should illustrate the ability to conduct impactful research on an international level within the given field of research.

Associate professor
Applicants must document research qualifications at Associate Professor level, including a relevant PhD degree and publications adhering to the level of the applied position. It is presupposed that applicants for the position as associate professor have research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as an assistant professor/researcher, or achieved otherwise. The successful candidate can furthermore present an original and coherent research and impact strategy that connects to the Department’s activities, a well-developed network with the practice field, strong international ties to relevant research communities, and experience in designing and managing research projects, as well as activities related to attracting external research funding. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have received supervision and pedagogical upgrading and a positive written evaluation of their teaching qualifications.

Assistant professor
Applicants must document research qualifications at Assistant Professor level, including a relevant PhD degree and publications adhering to the level of the applied position.  

Both as associate professor and assistant professor it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

• List of publications that the applicant wishes to be considered. A maximum of 10 publications may be submitted.
• Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. The declaration must be signed by the co-authors. Template co-author declaration.
• Education (copies of documentation for degrees obtained).
• Documentation for teaching qualifications. Guidance Teaching portfolio.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
