Assistant Professor in Criminology

At the Department of Sociology and Social Work, The Faculty of Social Sciences, Aalborg University, a position as Assistant Professor in Criminology is available as of 1. August 2020 or soon thereafter.

Job description

A position as Assistant Professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities (include lecturing, supervision, coordination and programme planning). To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for Assistant Professors organised by the University. The employment as Assistant Professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution.

For appointment as an Assistant Professor, the successful candidate is expected to:

  • teach, supervise and examine students primarily at the Masterof Criminology programme (www.kriminologi.samf.aau.dk/) but possibly also at other programmes at the department, when relevant
  • conduct criminological research and publish research products at a high quality level in recognised venues
  • participate in external research networks and partnerships, and in doing so create and maintain productive relationships with researchers of different research and cultural backgrounds
  • contribute to the strengthening of the criminological research environment at the Department
  • contribute in a positive and constructive manner to the overall activities and working environment of the Department

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to ensure that assistant professorships provide career opportunities both within and outside of the university. For that reason, assistant professorships are formed in a manner ensuring that the competencies achieved in the position qualify for a career within research as well as a career in the private and/or public sector. No later than one year before the termination of the position, you are offered an interview in order to clarify your further career.

Qualification requirements
Applicants for the position of assistant professor must hold a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures.

• Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. The declaration must be signed by the co-authors. Template co-author declaration.

Assessment
An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Agreement

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
