Associate Professor in Media Technology

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology a position as Associate Professor in Media Technology is open for appointment from September 1st, 2020 or soon hereafter. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology's goal is the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description

In this position, your role will be to contribute to the research and teaching within Media Technology at the Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology. The program spans across subjects such as Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Programming as well as Audio- and Image Processing. You will teach on both the BSc and MSc level of the Medialogy program, including classroom teaching as well as project and thesis supervision. In particular, we expect that you have a proven track record in one or more of the following research areas:

  • Virtual and Augmented Reality
  • Interaction Design
  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Technology-enhanced Learning 

Furthermore, we expect that you have experience working with human-centered design, and the research should relate to the Multisensory Experience Lab (https://melcph.create.aau.dk), the Media Cognition and Interactive Systems group (https://vbn.aau.dk/en/organisations/mecis-media-cognition-and-interactive-systems), or the Center for Applied Game Research (http://game.aau.dk/). Moreover, we expect you to perform independent research, and to engage in applications for external funding, e.g. from the Innovation Fund Denmark, European research and educational agencies, the industry sector and other available sources. 

The position will be located at Copenhagen Campus and contain teaching mainly in the Medialogy study program. Since many Medialogy projects are done in collaboration with external partners, a proven record of collaborations with the public and private sector is an advantage.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
